Employment and Skills 2022 is a significant careers event where employers can meet with a large number of young people at key transition points in their lives as they are making choices about which subjects to study and how these fit with their future career aspirations. The career exploration activities that they will undertake during the day will help these young people find out more about the world of work and support their consideration of the full range of future learning and employment opportunities open to them.
This year's event is on Thursday 10th November 2022 from 9 am - 5 pm at the Villa Marina, the clear focus will be on supporting young people attending the event to find out more about the world of work and understand the importance of broad, transferable employability skills.
Research by the Education and
Employers Charity, which has promoted the Inspiring the
Future and Primary Future Campaigns across the world, suggests
that young people who engage with employers through career
activities such as the Employment and Skills event, careers
lessons and work experience are more likely to be positive about
schooling and its helpfulness in adulthood.
Simply put this research indicates that the more children and young people encounter employers whilst at school (4 or more often being cited) the more likely they are to be motivated and successful when they enter employment themselves and remain employed.
The purpose of the event is for students to:
• use employer expertise to help them further research two sectors of their choice
• find out about at least one sector that they hadn’t thought about before (their ‘wild card’)
• understand more about the ‘transferable skills’ that employers look for
• explore what a career path may look like
